This Foundation is committed to building a village designed to house a community of people - singles, couples, families, old and young, who, in permanently living together, will grapple with the issues facing our 21st century planet, and will develop and test new models for living lightly upon it. These new models will incorporate principles which will permit their adaptation, and adjustment to local requirements, anywhere. The Light Living Laboratory, planned for SW England, is intended to be the development centre for what is envisaged eventually to be a chain of Light Living Communities spanning the globe. It will effectively become a library of new tried and tested models of living in harmony with nature and self. This string of Light Living Communities is expected to become a strong factor in encouraging the development of a global consciousness based on equality, balance, harmony and justice. Much is being said in talks, books and film about the need for humanity to change its social & economic behaviour; the need for major change is even becoming self-evident to the observant on a daily basis. The reasons cited for this need vary according to one\'s perspective - humanity\'s impact on the natural world; climate change; global warming; growing economic inequality; population pressures; resource depletion and tipping points; etc. They unbdoubtedly each have a role to play, but paramount is the need for us humans to step back and ask some fundamental questions - what is it we want from life? what is it we want to pass on to future generations? indeed, in 21st century language, what is the purpose of life? The world over there are pockets of innovation addressing some of these issues, but no organisation exists for the sole aim of systematically drawing these ideas together, from the past and the present, and to develop and test models for living that comprehensively address today\'s challenges and represent viable alternatives to 21st century needs.
