About Theodore Anderson

Software product manager from Newport, Rhode Island. In my current role I help build IT systems and products for large enterprises in healthcare. I have also contributed to startups ranging from recycling systems to fin-tech. I became a product manager because of my passion for technology that I discovered while studying earth sciences, and my love for building things that emerged while hosting dinner parties. Always an outdoors type, I chose the geosciences major at Williams College. To my surprise, I was quickly introduced to computer programming when modeling earth systems. Thinking about the earth as a giant computer with inputs and outputs made me fall in love with technology. When I got my programs to run and even validated their results with real world observations, I felt closer to understanding the mystery of the earth. Being a \"builder\" is a common trait among product people. While programming made me realize I could create real world things that someone might find useful, it was actually throwing dinner parties that got me hooked on building things/experiences that people love. In my senior year of college, I taught a class on how to make pasta. Each class was kind of like a mini-startup. I needed to develop a vision. The best classes were where I vividly envisioned people falling in love with their creations. I also needed to deal with constraints. 10 rolling pins broke the budget so I used water bottles instead. And of course, not everyone likes what I like, so I had to iterate every class based on their feedback. In the end, I had something totally new and delightful, that had grown alongside my students. These experiences compelled me to pursue a career building awesome things people love with technology that excites me.
