ABOUT THEODORE ALIVIO
Howdy! I am Dr. Theodore \"Troy\" Alivio. I am currently an Assistant Professor of Chemistry at the Department of Chemistry & Physical Sciences at Nicholls State University. I completed my Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry at Texas A&M University under the supervision of Professor Sarbajit Banerjee My research interests are focused on understanding the interfacial chemistry of engineered and natural nanomaterials. I have a strong interest in chemistry education and have worked as part of a collaborative team to develop an experiment for modifying the wettability of various solid substrates as part of the physical chemistry curriculum at Texas A&M University. In Spring 2016, I completed a certification class called Academy for Future Faculty through the Center for Teaching Excellence of Texas A&M, which has allowed me to further acquire formal training in effective teaching practices. After graduation, I worked with Professor Vickie Williamson at Texas A&M University as a visiting scholar to extend my skills and knowledge on chemistry education research (CER). My current CER efforts are centered on aiding STEM and non-STEM students placed at-risk early into the semester by identifying strong equity-grounded success predictors for two-semester general chemistry courses in primarily-undergraduate institutions (PUIs). In my spare time, you can find me either reading suspense and thriller novels, listening to horror and true crime podcasts, working out at a gym, playing badminton with a friend, running in a park while listening to alternative rock and heavy metal music, cooking a dinner for two, or driving to wherever the road takes me!
