ABOUT MARCELA RADA

My passion is to educate and share knowledge with others in the music industry. That passion led me down an academic path, one that has shaped my career and allowed me to teach, mentor, and contribute to the field in a meaningful way.I began by earning a Bachelor’s degree in Music with a major in Digital Audio Arts, followed by a Master’s degree in Music Production, Technology, and Innovation; both of which gave me a strong foundation in both the creative and technical aspects of music-making. Committed to deepening my expertise and sharing it with others, I transitioned into academia, where I have built a career as an educator, researcher, and speaker.I have had the privilege of teaching at Algonquin College, Interlochen Center for the Arts, University of Lethbridge, Berklee College of Music, University of Toronto, Leeds Beckett University, Abbey Road Institute, University of the Arts London, and the Music Commission of Saudi Arabia. In these roles, I have mentored students in audio engineering, music production, and immersive sound, helping shape the next generation of music professionals. My approach has always been to bridge the gap between academic research and real-world industry practices, making complex technical concepts accessible and applicable.Beyond the classroom, I have been invited to speak at major conferences and industry events such as SXSW, Amsterdam Dance Event, the Audio Engineering Society Convention, Berklee NYC Experience Innovation, XP Music Futures, and the International Broadcasting Convention. My work as an educator has also taken me across the globe. I have led workshops, masterclasses, and lectures in the United States, Canada, Spain, the Netherlands, Saudi Arabia, Colombia, Bolivia, Myanmar, Denmark, and the United Kingdom. Teaching in so many different cultural and professional contexts has reinforced my belief that music and education are universal languages, ones that can inspire and empower creators everywhere.Currently, I am completing a PhD in Audio Engineering at the University of Surrey, focusing on workflows and guidelines for immersive music production. Alongside my research, I continue to lecture at various institutions and lead educational initiatives, ensuring that my work remains at the intersection of academia and industry.Throughout my career, my mission has remained the same: to educate, to support, and to help shape an industry where knowledge is shared, creativity is nurtured, and artists and engineers feel empowered to do their best work.
