HALT VIOLENCE is a 501 c3 non profit organization that was founded December 2013, but began operations March 3, 2014. The mission is to Squash Beef and Save lives. The vision of the organization will transform teens and young adults who have a history of violent behavior or previous incarceration.The organization exists to provide early intervention amongst violence in the brown communities to teens, young adults and adults. When HALT VIOLENCE is aware of a violent act in the community, such as a fight, shooting or homicide, HALT VIOLENCE engages with the parties involved to prevent further violence. This takes place by connecting with the key individuals involved, typically 2 to 3 parties involved from each opposing group. Then we facilitate a conflict mediation at our safe site where HALT VIOLENCE oversees the parties involved. We make sure there is no disrespect by over talking, watching for body language and suggesting nonviolence alternatives when the parties get stuck on a solution.
