ABOUT BRIAN JOHNS

I have been involved in sports for my whole life. As a child I played several sports, baseball, basketball, football and track. Ultimately, it was swimming that I was the best at and enjoyed the most. After watching Mark Tewksbury win the Olympic gold medal in 1992 when I was 10, I knew that that was what I wanted to do. While I loved to play and be athletic, I\'ve always had a passion for the data side of sport, whether it is reading old box scores, staying up to date on sports analytics or optimizing my franchise in NHL or Madden! Over the course of my 13-year national team swimming career, my work ethic and drive took me to 3 Olympics and a World Record in the 400 Individual Medley. Beyond being a High Performance athlete, I have always had an analytical side to development. I was always trying to find small ways to get big advantages and I carried this attitude from being an athlete to becoming a coach. For me, I knew that being able to get more data, and being a student of the sport, would enable me to become the best that I could be in the water and on the pool deck. I have decided to make a transition into this passion of being a student of sport by becoming a Data Scientist. While I love (and will always love) sports, I find that my undying desire to keep learning and persistence to improve has led me to opportunities I never thought possible away from the sports realm. I look forward to bringing this desire and competitiveness to the next stop of my journey in order to produce High Performance results on the data side of things.
