ABOUT THARA TOM

I am a research-driven chemist specializing in advanced functional materials, with hands-on experience spanning academic research, international collaboration, and interdisciplinary projects.I hold an MPhil in Chemistry from Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) and an MSc in Pharmaceutical Chemistry from Mahatma Gandhi University. My research focuses on the synthesis, processing, and characterization of nanomaterials, biopolymers, and composite systems for biomedical, environmental, and advanced engineering applications.As an Erasmus+ Fellow at Dublin City University, Ireland, I worked on laser-based synthesis of alloy nanoparticles using Laser Ablation Synthesis in Solution (LASiS). I am currently involved in research on biopolymer composites for biomedical applications and surface-modified cellulose–PLA systems through international collaborations.My expertise includes nanomaterial synthesis, polymer and biopolymer composites, laser processing, additive manufacturing, and advanced material characterization techniques such as SEM, FTIR, UV–Vis, DSC, DMA, and particle size analysis. I have contributed to peer-reviewed journals, book chapters, and conference presentations in the areas of nanocomposites, tissue engineering, and additive manufacturing.I am passionate about translating materials research into real-world applications, particularly in biomedical materials, sustainable polymers, and functional nanotechnology. I am open to research collaborations, PhD opportunities, and roles in materials science, nanotechnology, and applied chemistry.
