About Thais Perkins

Storytelling is at the root of all human communication. We are built to tell and to hear stories, through spoken and written language and visual art/design. Storytelling must be the core of good PR campaign and communications elements. Press releases, speechmaking, marketing, web design, grantwriting and how an organization communicates their mission to donors - all of these components are rooted in story. My focus is public relations and communication for positive change. My mission is an has always been to make the world a cleaner, more humane, and more sustainable place to live through environmental science and education. I have specialized in reforestation science and climate change, with an interest in women’s health, family policy and vaccine education. I’ve been a nonprofit executive, an environmental commissioner, a teacher, a songwriter, a scientist and a regulator. Most recently, I led the Austin-area tree planting nonprofit TreeFolks for 5+ years, raising over $5M to plant 2.5 million trees in Central Texas. I was proud to start a new model for private land carbon sequestration during that time, and to work to improve the equity of Austin’s tree planting services. My 20+ years of professional experience includes nonprofit management, public relations, ecological research, environmental regulation for the City of Austin’s Watershed Protection Department, communications consulting, grantwriting, program management for the Environmental Science Institute at University of Texas, and teaching environmental science and biological science at the university level. I am accepting a small number of requests for PR/Communications assistance in the science, education, private, and nonprofit sectors. Emphasis areas include environmental, environmental services tech, women\'s health, the arts and educational services. Feel free to get in touch.
