ABOUT THAHIR JAMAL KILIYAMANNIL

Currently, I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Literature and Languages, School of Liberal Arts, SRM University–AP, India. I am also a Global Fellow (2025–2026) at the Ansari Institute for Global Engagement with Religion, University of Notre Dame, where I am developing my dissertation into a book manuscript.I hold a PhD from the University of Hyderabad. Trained in English literary theory with a focus on cultural studies, I work with interdisciplinary methods, archives, and texts. My doctoral research draws on approaches from history, law, political science, and the social sciences. Titled “Islam, State and Sovereignty: Genealogy of Muslim Subject Formation in Malabar,” the thesis examines community–state relations in colonial and post-colonial South India and traces the shifting configurations of sovereignty.Previously, as a Guest Faculty at the University of Hyderabad, I taught courses such as \"Comparative Cultural Studies\" and \"Literatures of India,\" and supervised MA dissertations. My approach to teaching integrates close textual analysis with historically grounded, cross-disciplinary perspectives shaped by my interdisciplinary training.I have held the COMPOSE Residential Writing Fellowship at Universitas Islam Internasional Indonesia (May–August 2025). I was an Erasmus Fellow (2021) at BGSMCS, Freie University, and a DAAD PhD Visiting Fellow at CeMIS, University of Göttingen (2022).I am currently seeking postdoctoral and teaching opportunities across the humanities and social sciences.
