About Tess Beck
The field of social entrepreneurship sits at the intersection of free market principles and social well-being, using mixed methodologies to study the creation of opportunity, pursuit of social justice, and economic stimulation all at once. I am a PhD student in this field because I believe many of the key challenges facing social entrepreneurs are the very same challenges facing all of humanity in the 21st century: how do we balance economic and societal goals? how do we lean on tried-and-true business practices while also creating space for a new kind of enterprise? what does progress really look like, for everyone? how do we take the political, social, and economic institutions we have been handed, and use them to meet the plethora of need around us? Always open to connect, collaborate, or just nerd out over anything economics, entrepreneurship, management, or research related :)
