ABOUT TESSA MILLER
I am a writer, editor, college teacher, and disability justice advocate. My writing focuses on chronic illness, disability, and health justice. My writing has appeared in The New York Times, New York Magazine, Self, Medium, Health, Elle, Slate and The Daily Beast, among others. I was a senior editor at Lifehacker, The Daily Beast, and Self magazine. My critically-acclaimed debut book “What Doesn’t Kill You: A Life with Chronic Illness—Lessons from a Body in Revolt” was published by Macmillan in 2021 and is available wherever books are sold (please consider purchasing from your local indie shop!). “What Doesn’t Kill You” is part memoir about my life with incurable diseases, and part reporting on living with chronic illness and disability in the American healthcare system. The book received widespread critical acclaim; the NYT Book Review said that it \"should be read by anyone with a body.\" I\'m a graduate of Northwestern University in Evanston, IL and am pursuing my master\'s degree in language and literacy at The City College of New York, where I also teach undergraduate composition and rhetoric. I\'ve lived in New York City for 13 years and reside in Brooklyn with my spouse, who\'s a tenants\' rights lawyer, and our four (yes four!) dogs.
