ABOUT TERRY SNUTCH
Terrance P. Snutch, PhD, is Professor and Distinguished University Scholar at the University of British Columbia’s Michael Smith Laboratories and Director of Translational Neuroscience at the Djavad Mowafagian Centre for Brain Health. Prof. Snutch is a world-renowned pioneer in molecular neurobiology recognized for his ground-breaking work in the cloning and characterization of the voltage-gated calcium channel family underlying signaling responsible for physiological properties ranging from neurotransmitter release and controlling neuronal excitability to pain sensation and epileptiform activity. His research has laid the foundation for broad aspects of calcium channel research today, and contributed to unravelling fundamental mechanisms in neurobiology. Prof. Snutch’s myriad contributions encompass areas in neuronal physiology, pathophysiology and therapeutic intervention, with the significant impact of his translational research providing the basis for new therapeutic targets and treatments for human neurological disorders. Dr. Snutch is author on 221 research papers and a prolific inventor with 29 issued U.S. and 88 international patents. In part, his pioneering contributions have been widely recognized through the metrics of his research (38,124 citations; h-index = 98), and over 250 invited seminars and symposia talks.
