The project I was working on was the Chinguetti Field Decommissioning in Mauritania. The tasks where to recover 3x 10” Risers, 1x 8” Risers, 1x 6” Riser and 1x Umbilical. To do this we lifted the termination heads with the crane from the seabed to 80m below the surface. Then cross hauled the riser onto the vertical lay systems (VLS) A&R winch and hauled in on the winch. Once the termination head was at the top of the VLS we engaged the two VLS tensioners. After this was done the VLS crane was connected and the A&R winch was disconnected. Using both tensioners and crane together we lifted the termination head over the VLS and down onto the back deck. The termination head was then cut from the riser using a hydraulic shear cutter. Now we lowered the cut riser into the under-deck carousel and spooled in the riser. This procedure was repeated for the remaining risers and umbilical.
