   Terri Leigh Coleman is the Owner and Executive Director of TLC Support Services, LLC. The agency has been open since 2006 and has a team of 20 dedicated staff that work together to \"think out of the box\". Sometimes it can be difficult for people with long term illness to access medical care and get proper approvals for necessary services. Terri\'s background through education is Bachelor of Science in Marketing and Post Graduate work in Special Education as well as more than 20 years working with individuals with Traumatic Brain Injury and other debilitating afflictions that cause long term effects. Through this experience she is able to assist her array of clients in accessing medical and community resources that may not otherwise be readily available.In NY State in the mid \'90\'s a Traumatic Brain Injury Initiative, sparked by Gov Cuomo at the time, began a process to \"bring home\" the over 900 individuals with TBI that had been placed in out of state facilities for rehab (as there were no suitable facilities providing this type of care in NY State at the time). The team that was assessing these individuals recognized their varied needs (ranging from some in coma and on vents to the need for behavioral services and substance abuse programs) They were charged with the task of developing the proper resources and programs so these individuals could live in NY where their families were. This initiative gave birth to the TBI Medicaid Waiver Program. As many of these individuals were then involved in long term care, Medicaid developed a program that \"waives\" the standard rules and offers specialized services to those with a qualifying diagnosis.(in this case TBI) TLC Support Services, LLC is contracted under the Dept of Health as a provider of these services in the State of NY.
