About Terrence Richard Blackman
As the Chairperson of the Executive Council at The National Alliance for Doctoral Studies in the Mathematical Sciences (Math Alliance), I lead a community of math sciences faculty and students who share a common goal: to increase the diversity and representation of doctoral degrees and careers in the mathematical sciences. I have been part of this organization for the last seven years and am passionate about its mission and vision.I am also Chair and Associate Professor of Mathematics at Medgar Evers College, CUNY, where I have been teaching mathematics since July 2015. My research interests include number theory, spectral theory, hyperbolic geometry, Quantum Computing, and pedagogical issues related to teaching and learning mathematics. I have received grants from the National Science Foundation and the Department of Education to support my projects and publications. Additionally, I have a long record of working on equity and diversity issues, and I am especially interested in African-American success in mathematics. I have been involved in various initiatives and programs to provide access and opportunities for underrepresented and low-income students to pursue STEM majors and careers. I hold a Ph.D. and an M.Phil. in Mathematics from the City University of New York Graduate Center.
