ABOUT TERESA LAU

My family and I immigrated to Calgary in 1995 for a brighter future amid uncertainty in Hong Kong. Witnessing my parents, who are now happily retired, overcome challenges to pursue fulfilling careers that also provided for the family inspired me to assist newcomers facing similar hurdles. I completed a Bachelor\'s in Sociology with a concentration in Ethnicity, Immigration and Multiculturalism and worked as an HR professional, recruiting and settling foreign workers, amongst other responsibilities. I transitioned to a career advising role to support foreign-trained physicians in integrating into the Canadian workforce at the Alberta International Medical Graduate Association (AIMGA) to better align my profession with my mission and values. Recognizing the importance of addressing internal barriers, I pursued a Master\'s in Counselling Psychology, obtained credentials, and founded Little Way Counselling. My dedication extends beyond professional realms, as I actively volunteer at immigration serving agencies and support new immigrants at Our Lady of Perpetual Help parish, Calgary\'s only Chinese Catholic church. Expertise in HR, career advising, and counselling psychology defines my professional journey. Beyond the professional sphere, I cherish moments spent with family and friends. I am eager to connect with like-minded professionals and contribute to the collective journey of empowering newcomers.
