ABOUT TENA SLOAN
Speciality is in early childhood (infant) mental health and its intersection with culture, parenting, early education, and behavior health, and social-emotional wellness. My hope is to inspire connection, empowerment and compassion one system, one interaction, one experience and one relationship at a time. I believe all young children have the inalienable right to be embedded in relationships and systems that preserve and nurture their sense of worth, significance, and inner wisdom. My pursuit is for every child to be seen, heard, understood, valued and cared for deeply. I believe the adults - parents and professionals - who care for our youngest and most vulnerable members of our community deserve support and resources to be well and to be at their most optimal for the benefit of the children. My core specialty areas include: trauma, toxic stress and adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), foster care/adoption, attachment, early child (brain) development, parenting and early relationships, social-emotional development, interpersonal organizational culture, as well as learning, behavior and emotions within early care/early education. Topics for keynote presentations, trainings and speaking events include: Early childhood mental health, early childhood mental health consultation, trauma and young children, early separation and grief/loss, healing trauma and trauma informed care, professional burnout/compassion fatigue/vicarious trauma as well as reflective practice/supervision/consultation. I am endorsed as an infant-family early childhood mental health specialist, reflective practice facilitator II and a licensed marriage and family therapist.
