ABOUT TEMITOPE SMITH

A researcher-practitioner working at the intersection of AI, digital technology, and human behavior, with over a decade of experience spanning FMCG, fintech, and digital platforms. My work explores how individuals navigate trust, authenticity, and persuasion in algorithmically mediated environments, from influencer marketing to AI-powered conversational systems. My MSc research (Merit, University of Bradford) investigated the paradox of digital influencer marketing, finding that while influencer activity significantly drives purchasing behaviour, it does not meaningfully shape brand perception. This led to the development of the concept of structured ambivalence, describing the disconnect between what consumers believe and how they act. I am currently extending this research into AI-mediated relationships and digital intimacy, examining how users form emotional and trust-based attachments to AI systems. In my role as product manager at Sweftly, an AI-powered conversational payments platform, I generate real-world insights into: Human–AI trust formation Perceived authenticity in AI interactions Emotional and behavioural responses to conversational agents My interests lie in advancing research and practical understanding in: Human–AI interaction and trust Digital consumer behaviour AI ethics and relational technologies Platform-mediated relationships and intimacy I am particularly interested in PhD opportunities and collaborations exploring the social and psychological implications of AI systems in everyday life.
