WORK HISTORY
Cybersecurity Co-op @BCI
Victoria, BC, CA
Worked across IAM, endpoint security, incident response, and network security on the cybersecurity and risk team at one of Canada\'s largest institutional investors. My scope covered everything from investigating real alerts to designing access frameworks to automating compliance reporting — the kind of breadth where you learn fast because the work is live and the stakes are real.Investigated a suspicious executable found in a non-standard directory — correlated hash analysis on VirusTotal, flagged code signing anomalies and C2 indicators, confirmed it was malicious. Led to network containment and device remediation. First solo investigation; the pressure of real consequences made it meaningful in a way coursework never could.Built DNS-request-based detection queries in the SIEM that surfaced shadow AI usage across the enterprise — unsanctioned tools that nobody knew were running. This is the work I find most satisfying: making the invisible visible.Spearheaded emergency access documentation for 163+ SSO-integrated applications, reducing undocumented breakglass coverage gaps from 86% to 22%. Built a tiered risk classification system and coordinated procedure collection across 40+ application owners.Automated breakglass compliance reporting with PowerShell and the Confluence REST API — cut a 3-hour manual process down to 10 minutes.Designed an IAM admin role progression framework spanning 8 standard roles with sandbox-to-production gated access, reducing role redundancy by 25% while keeping least-privilege intact.

ABOUT TEJAL GOYAL
I’ve always been fascinated by the full stack of technology–from the logic on an embedded chip to the AI models that learn from the data it produces. My journey started in Electronics and Computer Engineering, giving me a deep appreciation for how systems work. Now, as a Master\'s student in Applied Data Science, I’m focused on building the \"brain\" that makes those systems intelligent.I thrive on building end-to-end solutions that solve tangible problems. This is what drove me to build projects like AI-powered smart glasses (optimizing models for low-latency hardware) and an end-to-end classifier that can detect phishing threats with over 98% accuracy. My core interests lie at the intersection of Machine Learning and Cybersecurity. I\'m passionate about using AI to defend systems, detect anomalies, and build more robust, secure technology from the ground up.I am actively seeking a Winter 2026 Co-op in a Data Science, Machine Learning, or Cybersecurity role where I can contribute to complex challenges.Let\'s connect!
