About Drenna Coleman

Dreamville raised and HBCU educated, I have a true passion for education, mentorship, and artistic nourishment. I aim to empower young Black creatives by guiding them through building portfolios and obtaining resources/opportunities that align with their personal and creative goals. With a love for my culture and community, I plan to cultivate equitable, inclusive spaces for artists of the Black/African Diaspora, with a special emphasis on HBCU students and alumni.As I study Adult Education, my research is focused on investigating, exploring, and describing the lived experiences of Black LGBTQ+ adult learners in the southeastern United States. The purpose of my research is to increase advocacy and activism of Black LGBTQ+ through art mediums like photography, film, and creative writing.

   Teach standard English classes for over 50 students, cultivating a classroom environment of inclusivity, respect, and curiosity that has improved student behavior.• Design and execute culturally relevant lesson plans that have strengthened student engagement and increased collective End-of-Course scores by 17%.• Establish relationships with students and ensure each learner feels attended to through personalized feedback, class discussions, one-on-one conferences, and encouragement.• Monitor students’ performance and implement intervention strategies using school and behavioral pattern assessments.
