About Ted Leinbaugh
Professor Leinbaugh teaches medieval literature at UNC and works on international educational and diplomatic programming as Senior Advisor for the Association of Marshall Scholars (AMS) and as President of the Transatlantic Forum for Education and Diplomacy (TFED). He has created a collaborative program for UNC and Kings College London, with a focus on literature and diplomacy, which includes a course on “Epic, Empire, and Diplomacy,” taught with Sir Christopher Meyer, the former British ambassador to the US. Ted previously served as Chair of the Marshall Scholarship Selection Committee at The British Consulate General in Atlanta and as President of the AMS. Queen Elizabeth II honored Leinbaugh with the title of OBE in recognition of his work for the Marshall Scholarship program. A Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Yale, Ted earned an MPhil degree at Oxford University as a Marshall Scholar and his MA and PhD degrees from Harvard University. At UNC, in addition to teaching and research, Ted teaches for the Warrior Scholar Project, which provides enlisted veterans with academic workshops in preparation for university, and leads the London Study Abroad program at KCL. He has previously mentored for the Carolina Scholars Program and served as a Faculty Director for the London Honors program. As President of the AMS, Leinbaugh led a revitalization effort through new digital initiatives and programming efforts. With the guidance of Reid Hoffman—co-founder of LinkedIn and fellow Marshall Scholar—Leinbaugh started the AMS Group on LinkedIn. Leinbaugh also arranged events at the British Embassy, the US State Department, Yale, UNC, the New York Times, and the FCO in London. Speakers for these events featured a number of Marshall Scholars including Anne Applebaum, Bruce Babbitt, Supreme Court Justice Breyer, Deputy Secretary of State Bill Burns, Sewell Chan, Ray Dolby, Tom Friedman, Nan Keohane, Harold Koh, Ambassador Quainton, Congressman Spratt, and Daniel Yergin.
