About Teal Wyckoff

I lead a team focused on cloud-based geospatial analytics and data storage platforms for conservation science, serving a global audience. As Associate Director of Geospatial Services at The Nature Conservancy, I support the development and stewardship of a cloud‑first GeoCloud portfolio, including desktop GIS, data-science compute, shared storage and data-lake capabilities, governance, and web GIS hosting.Much of my role involves partnering with colleagues across science, conservation, and within IT to help translate emerging approaches, such as Earth observation, modern data sharing, and applied AI/ML, into dependable, well‑supported services that practitioners can rely on in their day‑to‑day work. Our team supports a large, global geospatial community and the broader workforce across all 50 U.S. states and dozens of countries. We aim to align our work with TNC’s 2030 climate mitigation and biodiversity goals by focusing on practical outcomes, sustainable operations, and shared ways of working. I spend most of my time on product strategy, operational improvement, and helping shape how experimental product testing can mature into secure, scalable capabilities for the organization. Before joining TNC, I spent nearly two decades at the University of Wyoming working on applied geospatial science and decision‑support tools with state and federal partners. My personal academic research included understanding how human development influences ungulate migration across Wyoming’s intact and human‑modified landscapes. At a simple level, what motivates me is the belief that geospatial science and supporting technology, when implemented thoughtfully and at scale, can support better decisions, accelerate climate action, and help create conditions where both people and nature can thrive.Focus areas: Geospatial-Cloud product strategy, data governance and sharing, AI for nature, web GIS, cross‑team collaboration, vendor stewardship, public‑sector decision support.
