SKILLS
ABOUT TOM STYLES
Chartered Engineer with 15 years experience. PhD, post doctoral research and present consultancy work provide a strong basis in primarily numerical modelling of fractured rock, characterising and monitoring the rock mass, and general geotechnical support for quarries, open pit and underground mines, and green field sites. Consultancy work has also involved residual soils, waste rock dump design, tailings dam and embankment design. My aims are to work towards developing a stronger link between taking the results from characterisation, and directly incorporating them into advanced numerical modelling, whilst using numerous methods of monitoring as a constrain.Specialities: Geotechnical Engineering, Numerical Modelling, Fractured Rock Slopes, Life of Mine Modelling, Block Cave Mining, Tailings, Waste Rock Dumps, Photogrammetry, Laser Scanning, Optical Satellite Imagery and InSAR to characterise mine-driven subsidence.
