About Tim Deyoung

I am currently a full-time employee at the South Holland Public Library.I am responsible for administering automated systems of the library, including but not limited to the local area network, the system-wide automated network, the telephone system, the audio-visual systems, the website, Internet and mobile services of the library.I also contribute to the marketing resources and activities of the library, including the library’s monthly newsletter, email campaigns, social media and other forms of promotion.For 17 years, I designed, developed, and maintained the several-hundred page depth municipal website of the Village of South Holland, Illinois.On the side, I own Octane Technologies, a technology services and digital media company offering consulting services in technical support, systems analysis and engineering, network design, website design and development, marketing, branding, graphics design, social media, internet advertising and photography.A notable part of Octane Technologies was ModernCamaro.com, which I owned and operated for 4 years, successfully growing it from infancy into one of the biggest Camaro enthusiast websites on the Internet. In late 2010, I negotiated a successful sale of ModernCamaro.com to VerticalScope in a 6-figure deal.On March 18, 2014, I was elected as the Republican Committeeman of Thornton Township, the largest township in Illinois.I was a member of the Camaro Consumer Advisory Board at General Motors. We represented the voice of the Camaro enthusiast community and provided feedback directly to those at Chevrolet and GM that are responsible for the development of the Camaro.    As the head of information technology, I am a jack of all technology trades at the library. I manage I.T. staff and all components of technology. I develop multi-year technology plans on an annual basis. I like to say I\'m in charge of \"anything with a plug\".I manage the local area networks (including 10 virtual servers and over 120 endpoints), wireless networks, VoIP systems, security camera systems, Internet and VPN connections, cloud services, audio-visual systems, digital displays, public address systems, mobile hotspots, people counters, and patron vending equipment. It is also my responsibility to provide for the security, backup and recovery of all of these systems.I manage relationships with numerous third-party vendors to provide reliable and appropriate services needed for the library, and manage all contracts with them.I manage the grant-writing process to fund as much technology as possible, and I manage the budgets of everything mentioned above.I train staff on the use of technology and on cybersecurity.And I still help out with managing the development and maintenance of the library\'s website and social media, most recently leading the website redevelopment process in 2024.
