She served as a teacher with Fulton County Schools and an adjunct professor of business and communication courses at Lanier Technical College prior to moving to the Gulf Coast. Prior to moving into the education field, she was president and CEO of a major business to business publishing group based in Atlanta. She is a veteran magazine publisher with more than 20 years\' experience in the industry. In 2001, she co-founded SportingKid magazine, the official publication of the National Alliance for Youth Sports. She also founded SPORTS EDGE magazine. She has written for or worked with more than 25 magazines during her career, including retailing, design, investment, real estate and highly technical publications, to name a few. D\'Aversa has held executive positions at Primedia, Inc, Time, Inc. and Cahners Media.
