About Taylor Brett
I am a litigation attorney who represents clients across multiple industries––predominately in the midstream and downstream sectors of the petroleum industry. I concentrate my practice in the areas of general casualty, toxic tort, premises liability, products liability, eminent domain, and commercial litigation. While most of my work entails defending lawsuits filed against my clients, I also have significant experience litigating commercial claims on the plaintiff’s side. I advocate for clients every step of the way at the trial and appellate levels in both state and federal courts, as well as in administrative tribunals. I am admitted to practice in Louisiana and Texas, as well as the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana, the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Louisiana, the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Louisiana, and the U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals.Although I am a litigator by trade, my litigation work meaningfully informs my role as counselor and advisor to my clients outside the context of a lawsuit. In this way, I draw on my litigation experience to help my clients develop risk mitigation strategies that they can use to prevent or, at the very least, minimize their potential legal exposure by heeding my counsel. For instance, my extensive experience litigating commercial disputes has been invaluable to clients that have asked me to draft and negotiate the terms in their contracts. I am uniquely positioned to offer sage advice to my clients on the appropriate verbiage to use for particular contractual provisions, having seen firsthand in my commercial litigation practice the steep consequences that can result from poorly drafted contracts.Similarly, as a litigator, I strongly believe that staying up-to-date on the law is imperative to protecting my clients\' interests. In line with this mindset, I habitually monitor civil litigation-related bills and other measures introduced during legislative sessions, and frequently check for new court opinions that may affect my clients in current and future cases. This way, I am able to intelligibly advise clients of strategies for not only minimizing their potential monetary exposure in ongoing cases, but also reducing the risk of future litigation against them.
