About Taylor Soule
I am a public defender practicing primarily in Stevens Point, Wisconsin. I represent clients in a variety of criminal matters, including misdemeanors and felonies ranging from traffic matters and disorderly conduct to drug cases and homicides. I have secured not guilty verdicts and full acquittals for my clients at multiple criminal jury trials, on charges including theft, disorderly conduct, and battery. I also represent youth accused of misdemeanors and felonies, as well as youth under 17 who are charged with adult crimes. Although my practice primarily focuses on criminal cases, I represent clients in specific types of civil matters, as well. My civil practice primarily focuses on termination of parental rights (TPR) and involuntary mental health commitment cases. I have defended clients at jury trials in both of the above types of cases, fighting for their parental rights and their right to be free from state involvement in their mental health decisions. I also serve on the Portage County Adult Drug Treatment Court team. I was admitted to the Wisconsin State Bar in September 2020 after earning my J.D. at the University of Iowa College of Law in May 2020. The summer after my 2L year, I was the Bonney Legal Fellow at the ACLU of Kansas in Overland Park. During my 1L summer, I worked as a legal extern in the General Counsel\'s Office at the Minnesota Department of Human Services in St. Paul. Before law school, I worked as communications coordinator at the Science Center of Iowa (SCI) in downtown Des Moines for three years. My lifelong love of museums led me there as an intern in May 2014, and I started working full-time at SCI in January 2015. I graduated from Drake University in December 2014 with bachelor\'s degrees in news-Internet journalism and writing. I am a proud lifelong Midwesterner, born in St. Louis Park, Minnesota, and raised in Newton, Iowa. In my free time, I enjoy reading, adding to my ever-growing houseplant collection, playing tennis, and cheering for the Iowa Hawkeyes. I live in the Stevens Point area with my husband (who is a fellow public defender), our young son, and our dog, Luna. My pronouns are she/her/hers.
