ABOUT TATHAGATA TAG PAL

Innovator in Diagnostics, Biosensors, and NanobiotechnologyI am Dr. Tathagata Pal, a researcher, mentor, and aspiring educator currently at Indiana University Bloomington. I specialize in CRISPR-based diagnostics, Digital CRISPR technology, Transducer-based biosensors (including Nanopore, Fiber optic, Electrochemical, Colorimetric paperstrip platform), and Nanobioengineering. I am actively writing NIH grants and developing independent research directions at the interface of CRISPR engineering, nanopore sensing, and translational diagnostics. My work focuses on accessible, scalable solutions for healthcare, environmental safety, and food security. Professional Milestones🧬 Engineered CRISPR Solutions:Developed CRISPR diagnostics for bacterial and viral infections, including ASFV and sepsis, by engineering PAM flexibility, sensitivity, and stability. My current research focuses on the development of Digital CRISPR Technologies and CRISPR-integrated nanopore platforms for molecular diagnostics and cardiac health monitoring, aiming to achieve high-resolution, scalable analytical readouts. Patents Granted:Inventor of multimodal biosensor technologies with three patents granted/licensed, covering the detection of pesticides, arsenic, toxins, and antibiotics. Award-Winning Research:– The IIT Bombay Best Thesis Award– Best Poster Award, JSPS HOPE Meeting with Nobel Laureates– Best Impact Pitch Award– Recipient of Three GYTI Awards (2020, 2023, & 2024) for three socially relevant sensors– INSC Research Excellence Award (/Best Paper Award) Impactful Publications:First and corresponding author publications in leading journals like Advanced Science, Biosensors and Bioelectronics etc, with over 425 citations. Global Collaborations:Collaborated with interdisciplinary teams across India, the UK, and the US on infectious disease diagnostics and environmental sensing. Expertise, Mentorship & Teaching:Hands-on experience in CRISPR engineering, Digital CRISPR, Nanopore, Optical fiber, Electrochemical, and Paper color biosensors, with proficiency in SEM, TEM, XRD, and FTIR. Former CIMER-certified Postdoc mentor in UC Riverside’s GSMP, with a strong commitment to teaching and inclusive mentorship. Vision:To lead an independent multidisciplinary academic lab in molecular diagnostics and biosensor technologies for translational relevance. To serve as an industry advisor translating biosensors, diagnostics to real-world impact. Open to OpportunitiesSeeking assistant professor and industry advisor roles. Let’s connect.
