About Táta Vega

Táta Vega is an Afro-Caribbean-European-Mediterranean-American vocalist whose career spans recording,theater, film, television,and a variety of musical genres. Two time Grammy,And Stellar Award Nominations,and Oscar Winning Documentary,”Twenty Feet From Stardom”.Ms.Vega began her professional singing career in 1969. In California,(1969-70) she was cast in the Los Angeles production of the Broadway musical, “Hair.”and went on to join the rock group “Pollution”,with Dobie Gray (also in Hair),Releasing two albums for Prophesy Records (A subsidiary of Atlantic Records) and then after, became a member of the group Earthquire, which released an album in 1973 on Motown\'s Natural Resources label. With Motown Records, Vega released four solo albums on the Tamla label: Full Speed Ahead (1976), Totally Táta (1977), Try My Love (1978) and Givin\' All My Love,(1981) along with two more compilation albums Pops We Love You and Motown Divas. These albums featured a diverse range of genres, including classic Motown soul, country,southern soul, disco, jazz, funk, country, latin, doo-wop, and gospel. She has had an active career as a backing vocalist, working with Chaka Khan,Patti LaBelle, Michael Jackson, Ray Charles,Patti Austin, Madonna,and as a soloist,featured with Stevie Wonder, Andraé Crouch, Lou Rawls, Rare Earth,Kenny Loggins,Kirk Whalum,George Duke,etc.She also worked in film,as the singing voice of Shug Avery in “The Color Purple”; and is featured on four songs on the 1986 soundtrack album, one of which,”Miss Celie\'s Blues”(Sister) was nominated for an Academy Award in the Best Song category. In 1998, she signed with Quincy Jones’ Qwest Records and released the Stellar Award nominated Gospel album, “Now I See”.In 2010,Miss Vega was picked as one of four backing vocalist,touring with Sir Elton John for five years.She has since signed With Agency, Innovative Artists, For Her Skills In Voice-Over,Commercials And Animation;Grateful And Thankful For Her Voice-Over Teacher,Mr.Charles(“Charlie”)Adler.
