ABOUT TARUN BALAJI
My name is Tarun Balaji. I’m a current Graduate student and a candidate for the Master of Science in Physiology program at the University of Minnesota Medical School.My academic and professional interests are at the intersection of biomedical science and education. My work is particularly invested on improving how complex scientific topics are taught and understood, specifically in anatomy and physiology. During my undergraduate career, I participated in more ‘traditional’ research projects related to muscular dystrophy, microbial activity in postmortem bone, and craniofacial growth analysis. However, some of my most meaningful experiences have been as a Teaching Assistant in Human Anatomy. Through interdisciplinary collaborations between the faculty in my home department and Learning Technologies, I was able to develop a one-of-its-kind active learning module for undergraduate anatomy coursework at UMN. I’m fully committed to making biomedical education more accessible, effective, and evidence-based. My goal is to contribute to the development of instructional methods and materials in a digital-first world and keep pedagogy and learning student-centered!
