ABOUT TARIQ HUSSAIN

I am a Fellow of the Institution of Chemical Engineers with over 25 years of experience in the energy industry. I am currently Shell\'s Dynamic Simulation subject matter expert. I have navigated a diverse career path that spans the hydrocarbon sector, education, and global STEM advocacy.I began my career as a graduate chemical engineer specialising in dynamic simulation, process control, and operator training simulators, dedicating my first decade to mastering these critical areas in the hydrocarbon industry for a consultancy. I delivered several projects to support assets, solve design, operating and safety issues, help reduce emissions, and train process operators for onshore and offshore hydrocarbon processing facilities. After 10 years, I made a pivotal career shift. Driven by a passion for teaching and developing the next generation, I returned to university to become a qualified physics teacher, teaching high school and sixth-form students. After a few years, I returned to the industry, and spent the next decade mastering dynamic process simulation and providing critical support to major hydrocarbon projects and operating assets, whilst also coaching and developing fellow engineers in this vital area.In 2017, I joined Shell where I embarked on a transformative assignment as the Global STEM Lead in Social Impact. I developed deep knowledge of Systems-Thinking as I spearheaded the launch and expansion of Shell’s NXplorers education programme, reaching over learners worldwide. Building on this success, I developed NXplorers PRO for Shell staff, partners, and academics and delivered Systems-Thinking training to thousands of colleagues and external emerging energy leaders. My passion lies in developing people and I am grateful for the opportunities to make a meaningful impact. As I continue to grow and evolve in my career, I am excited to contribute further to the fields of dynamic simulation, Systems-Thinking, STEM education, and beyond.
