As a Chief Officer on an oil/chemical/product tanker, I am responsible for overseeing critical aspects of the vessel’s operations, safety, and cargo management. My key duties and responsibilities include: • Plan and supervise all cargo loading, discharging, and transfer operations • Ensure proper handling and stowage of various oil, chemical, and petroleum products • Maintain accurate cargo records and documentation • Serve as the Ship Security Officer (SSO), implementing and maintaining the vessel’s security plan • Conduct regular safety drills and inspections of lifesaving and firefighting equipment • Ensure compliance with ISPS code, SOLAS, and other relevant maritime regulations • Stand navigation watches and assist the Master in voyage planning • Oversee maintenance of the ship’s hull, deck equipment, and living quarters • Manage ballast operations to maintain vessel stability and trim • Supervise and coordinate the work of the deck department crew • Conduct training sessions on safety procedures, regulations, and equipment use • Manage work schedules and oversee performance evaluations for deck crew • Maintain logs, records, and documentation required by company policies and maritime regulations • Manage inventory of deck department supplies and equipment • Assist in budgeting and cost control for deck operations
