ABOUT TARAH WATERS
Tarah’s journey to her current role with SOS began long before she joined the organization in 2020. Her experience as a Youth Development Specialist in the United States Peace Corps (Morocco, 20••••15) highlights her passion for supporting young people at critical developmental stages. She doubled down on this passion in the years after while employed as the Youth Development Coordinator for the Island Institute in Maine (20••••16, 2018). Her other passion for collaborating with community leaders eventually led her to Hawaii where she managed community programs at the Fruit Tree Planting Foundation (2017). Upon her return to Colorado, Tarah combined her love of nature and the outdoors with her passion for serving young people through her experiences as a guide for the Colorado Mountain Club and the Adventure Coordinator for the Rocky Mountain School of Expeditionary Learning. In recent years, Tarah moved to Summit County, began working for SOS, and earned a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, all while seeking new adventures outside with her friends–new and old. Chief among the many “whys” for doing this work is community. Who we see as part of our community, and how we can best be in community with each other, are the questions that drive her service. And nature is her guide to the answers.
