About Tara Thayer
Hello! I am a second-year Master of Social Work student and Mandel Leadership Fellow at Case Western Reserve University. My specialization is in Mental Health with Children and Adolescents, and I am pursuing a Certificate in Trauma-Informed Practice.Prior to entering graduate school, I completed a year of full-time service through Jesuit Volunteer Corps where I worked as as a Residential Counselor at a youth emergency shelter in San Diego. I received my undergraduate education from the University of Notre Dame, graduating in 2023 with with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and minors in Poverty Studies and Digital Marketing.My social work interests center around responses to child maltreatment and youth homelessness, and I am passionate about creating spaces where young people feel safe and protected. I currently work as a therapist for an outpatient mental health program in Cleveland, Ohio, where I support young adults ages 16 to 21 as they transition to independence while navigating the child welfare and juvenile justice systems.
