About Tara Summerfelt

I am a proud alum of Gonzaga University, where I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Biology and Criminology, along with a minor in Leadership Studies through the Comprehensive Leadership Program. I’ve always been drawn to the intersection of science, justice, and service—and I’ve had the opportunity to explore that throughout college in both academic and hands-on ways.My interest in forensic science has led me to intern with the Hawthorne Police Department’s Forensic Unit, where I’ve completed over 300 hours observing crime scene investigations, evidence processing, and court proceedings. I’m currently enrolled in an 80-hour Crime Scene Investigator Certificate Program at Cal State Long Beach to build on that experience.Beyond academics, I care deeply about giving back and building community. I’ve volunteered with organizations like the Women & Children’s Free Restaurant in Spokane and the Boys & Girls Club, and I served as an Ambassador for Gonzaga, connecting with prospective students and families. I was also Co-Selections Chair for the Setons of Gonzaga and presented at the International Leadership Association conference in Chicago.In Fall 2023, I studied abroad in Copenhagen through the Danish Institute for Study Abroad, where I immersed myself in different cultures and deepened my global perspective. In my free time, I love hiking, traveling, and spending time with friends and family.
