ABOUT TARA MESENSKY

I am a lawyer, therapist, and coach working at the intersection of mental health, law, ethics, and decision-making. My work focuses on helping individuals, professionals, and organisations navigate complex situations where emotional realities, legal obligations, and ethical considerations overlap. My approach to counselling is client-centred and grounded in the belief that people have an innate capacity for healing and growth. I focus on creating a safe and compassionate space where clients feel seen, heard, and understood. My therapeutic work is informed by Contemplative Psychology, Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT), Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Focusing.I completed a two-year Diploma Program in Contemplative Psychotherapy through the Nalanda Institute, integrating mindfulness- and compassion-based practices with contemporary psychotherapy and neuropsychology. I have also completed Psychedelics for Clinicians 101 and 102 through Fluence, focused on preparation and integration support from a harm-reduction perspective.Prior to becoming a counsellor, I practised as a family lawyer and trained in mediation, arbitration, and collaborative conflict resolution. My legal work involved research, analysis, and document review in regulated and high-risk contexts that require careful judgment, consistency, and defensible decision-making, as well as writing on legal issues involving risk, including fiduciary duties, directors’ and officers’ liability, family law, and condominium and municipal matters. I continue to draw on this background in my work as a conflict coach and in the development and delivery of training related to mental health, ethics, and legal risk.In addition to individual work, I have facilitated group workshops, including Mindful Self-Compassion for Lawyers, and group meditation classes. I have also completed a 30-hour Palliative Care Volunteer Training Program and provide distance Reiki (Master’s level) support to residents and families connected with Dorothy Ley Hospice.
