ABOUT JOHN TAPOGNA
For more than 30 years, I have worked at the intersection of economics, public policy, and civic leadership—helping foundations, governments, and business organizations make better decisions through analysis and evidence.I am now President of the Oregon Business Council, a nonpartisan group of business leaders working to strengthen Oregon’s long-term economic competitiveness and shared prosperity. The Council brings together leaders from across the state to align around structural challenges facing Oregon and advance practical solutions that support communities, workers, and employers alike. Previously, I spent three decades at ECONorthwest, where I built a national consulting practice focused on education and social policy. Earlier in my career, I served as a budget analyst at the U.S. Congressional Budget Office, receiving the Director’s Award for Outstanding Service for work on welfare reform during the Clinton administration.I serve on the boards of Oregon Public Broadcasting and the Miller Foundation.Specialties: Business strategy, operations, and succession; education, workforce, welfare, and tax policy analysis; cost-benefit analysis; longitudinal data analysis.
