ABOUT TAPIWANASHE MUKANDI

From a young age, I’ve been driven by a curiosity about the systems that shape our economy and society. This curiosity naturally led me to pursue a career in law, where I could combine my passion for problem-solving with my desire to make a tangible difference. After earning my Bachelor of Laws (LLB) in South Africa, I took on roles that expanded my knowledge of commercial, employment and property law, finance, and lending transactions and this eventually fueled my decision to specialize further in Banking and Financial Law at Boston University. Having gained a solid practical foundation in the legal fraternity at Zimbabwe’s second oldest law firm, Scanlen and Holderness Solicitors, in more recent times, I’ve had the privilege of leading teams and advising on multimillion-dollar property transactions, including overseeing over $8M in property sales in the UK over the course of four years. My time at Creative Legal Solutions has allowed me to blend legal expertise with business acumen, as I’ve worked closely with property sellers and auctioneers to ensure seamless, successful transactions. As the pioneering member of the remote-based legal team, I’m proud to have contributed to youth empowerment by recruiting and mentoring talented legal professionals in Zimbabwe, helping to shape the next generation of leaders. Now, as I pursue my master’s degree, I’m focused on expanding my expertise in financial law to further impact the intersection of law, finance, and business. My goal is to leverage this knowledge to work with global organizations, shaping policies and legal strategies that drive sustainable growth in the financial and property sectors. Ultimately, I aim to contribute to legal frameworks that make property and financial services more accessible and secure, especially in emerging markets. In addition to my professional work in law and finance, I’m passionate about creating music, playing cricket, reading and photography. You can check out some of my music creations on my YouTube channel. Beyond my career, I’ve also actively engaged in legal advocacy. In 2022, I challenged Zimbabwe’s restrictive laws criminalizing the private use of cannabis among adults, a case currently awaiting a decision from the Constitutional Court. Additionally, I’ve taken a stand on the Council for Legal Education’s pricing policy for conversion exams for foreign-trained lawyers, a case that was investigated by the anti-corruption policing agency in Zimbabwe.
