I am here to learn and to constantly question how the economy functions.Policy debates, financial markets, balance sheets, labour data, prices, credit cycles - each claims to explain how an economy works. Yet, they often point in different directions. Growth can accelerate while wages stagnate. Markets can rally while households feel worse off. What interests me is this dissonance: how these pieces interact, contradict one another, and still aggregate into the indicators we use to describe “the economy.” I’m drawn to the problem of reconciling macro measures with political outcomes and social experience - and to understanding where economic tools of analysis succeed, and where they fail.
