As part of the NASC Fellowship at the Takshashila Institution, I am researching how India can build stronger, future-ready innovation ecosystems by learning from China’s National Innovation Demonstration Zones. These zones have helped China scale industries such as AI, semiconductors, and green tech through long-term funding, coordinated governance, and close collaboration between government, academia, and industry.My paper explores how some of these institutional lessons can be adapted to India’s federal structure. The aim is to support more cohesive, execution-focused technology policies across central and state governments, including initiatives like Startup India, the Semiconductor Mission, and PLI schemes.The research combines insights from innovation systems thinking, policy design, and comparative governance to generate practical recommendations for India’s next decade of tech-led growth.
