ABOUT TANNER KOVACS

Tanner is a Partner at SB LLP and works with the Civil Litigation Team. While in law school, he was the first-place winner of the David Strangio Moot in the area of Canadian Constitutional Law. While he maintains a broad litigation practice, Tanner has primarily practiced in commercial litigation, with an emphasis on collections, condominium litigation, commercial lease disputes, construction litigation, shareholder disputes and energy law.Tanner has acted as legal Counsel for commercial developers, utility providers, political parties, commercial landlords, and condominium corporations, among many others.Tanner has appeared at the Court of King’s Bench of Alberta and the Supreme Court of British Columbia. Additionally, he has appeared before the Refugee Protection Division and has represented litigants at arbitration and trial.In recognition of his exceptional work, Tanner has been named a \'Future Star\' and a top \'40 & Under\' litigator for 2025 by Benchmark Litigation Canada, identifying him as one of Canada’s leading young litigators.Tanner is currently on the Christmas Bureau of Edmonton’s Board of Directors and acts as Chair of the Governance Committee. In the past, he has volunteered for the Team for Success Program, the Edmonton ITU Triathlon, and Ronald’s Readers. Tanner is a former Alberta Midget Hockey League first-team all-star and recipient of the Bill Ranford Trophy as the top U18 goaltender in the Province of Alberta. He also has experience playing in the Western Hockey League, Alberta Junior Hockey League, and British Columbia Hockey League. Tanner remains an avid hockey fan and has used his experience to volunteer as a U16 goaltending coach and for Hockey Alberta by assisting with Alberta Cup tryouts in Edmonton. He also enjoys tennis and travelling.
