I ensure employees are protected from workplace hazards such as chemicals (hazard communication), excessive noise, combustible dust, moveable machine parts (machine guarding), and radiation. I teach and enforce lockout/tagout procedures. I ensure forklift trainers prepare employees to operate in both processing and warehouse environments. I make sure employees have and wear proper personal protective equipment and that they maintain safe ergonomic work postures. I help improve emergency action plans and assist in carrying out annually required drills. I am in charge of the Safety Committees and the Emergency Response Teams on all shifts. I conduct root cause analysis and safe plan of action meetings with employees at all levels. I report total recordable injury rates and leading/lagging indicators to senior leadership on a weekly basis. I ensure hazardous and non-hazardous waste is appropriately removed from the facility and am actively engaged in the recycling program.
