ABOUT TAMESHIA V. GRIMES

On June 30, 2025, I retired from K-12 education, after serving six school years as the division superintendent for a small, rural public school system in Southside Virginia, and prior to that, serving for over 20 years cumulatively as a teacher, coach, and administrator at the middle school level and in the district office of a large school division in Virginia. I have served as the chair of the superintendents’ legislative committee and as a regional director and Awards Committee Chair for the Virginia Association of Secondary School Principals (BASSP) and been an active member of various local committees; I have presented at the American Educational Research Association’s conference on the topic of effective grading practices and been a panelist/presenter on the topic of educational equity for local organizations and universities.Prior to teaching, I worked in the private sector in the field of human resources.I currently serve as the Executive Director of MENTOR Virginia: an independent, 501(c)3 (nonprofit) organization that promotes effective youth mentoring in Virginia by increasing the capacity of mentoring programs, developing new programs, and advocating for resources to support the mentoring field. We help mentoring programs reach more youth in-need and provide higher quality mentoring by partnering with programs to identify existing quality practices and areas for improvement, develop action plans to meet national standards, and provide ongoing training and support to achieve goals. MENTOR Virginia also provides support and assistance, serving as a thought partner, to those interested in starting a youth mentoring program. Founded in 1993, our mission is to foster quality mentoring relationships that empower, elevate and encourage young people.
