ABOUT TAMEEM GENERAL

I am a third-generation entrepreneur and Director of Strategy, Sales & Finance at General Polytex, the flagship textile company of the General Group, a sustainability-led manufacturing house based in Surat, Gujarat.General Polytex is one of India’s leading producers of premium woven fabrics, supplying global fashion and retail leaders such as H&M, Zara, Marks & Spencer, GAP, Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger, Shein and more. With machines, fully renewable energy operations, and in-house recycled yarn capabilities, we are building a model for the future of responsible large-scale textile manufacturing in India.My journey began in public markets before I entered the family business. I worked on the hedge fund trading desk at Bain Capital, in sell side investment banking at UBS HOLT, and earlier with Turtle Wealth Management: experiences that shaped my approach to capital allocation, risk, and long-term value creation. I began investing at 14 and continue to manage our family’s equity portfolio.I hold a Bachelor of Science (Honors) in Business Administration (Finance) and Psychology from Northeastern University, and I have been admitted to Columbia Business School through its Deferred MBA Program, where I plan to further deepen my expertise in global markets, leadership, and industrial innovation.Alongside textiles, I am deeply fascinated by the future of energy, artificial intelligence, and circular economies.Beyond business, I founded the Easing Finance Initiative, a nonprofit that brings practical financial literacy to students from low-income schools, because understanding money shouldn’t be a privilege. I also published a book of poetry at 18, a reminder that numbers and narratives can co-exist.
