ABOUT TAL RIVA THEODOROU

My international background, life experience, and passion for intercultural communication inspired me to become a DEI consultant for cultural organizations specializing in anti-racist practices. I am a certified facilitator of the \"Dialogue Cards\" tool, developed by the Finnish Ministry of Culture and Education and TAIKE, which advances dialogue on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. I hold a master\'s degree in Creativity and Arts in Social and Health Fields from Metropolia University of Applied Sciences. My thesis focused on improving the facilitation of orchestra audition processes for both candidates and orchestras from a pedagogical standpoint and overall well-being perspective. As part of my studies, I have extensively investigated existing outreach programs offered by orchestras in Finland, the US, and the UK. I found that orchestra outreach programs can significantly improve by creating more targeted initiatives. They should collaborate more effectively with social NGOs to better understand the needs of underserved communities, thereby promoting their well-being and integration into society. In 2022, I launched the \"Music Mingling\" project, a series of professional gatherings designed to connect classical musicians from diverse international and local backgrounds residing in Finland, thereby expanding their professional networks. This collaborative initiative, conducted in partnership with Dörren by Luckan, saw me taking charge of content development, registration management, marketing strategies, and facilitation during the meetings. With extensive experience as a performing musician, I bring a deep understanding of the challenges and nuances within the music industry, which supports my goals of fostering a more inclusive working community and identifying the changes needed to become more approachable to a broader audience. I believe that creating an equitable and inclusive environment is the first step toward achieving greater diversity.
