Refugee Cafe is a registered charity that supports asylum-seekers and refugees in the Lewisham area by providing key skills and incentives through the bonds of food and community. We have recently finished a training initiative where asylum seekers in partnership with the Albany in Deptford and Lewisham College complete a training programme and have paid work cooking cultural meals for the community. My role as a Trustee involves collaborating with our Board, looking to lead and design our vision and strategy for Refugee Cafe, to be more than a community hub, a more practical support mechanism for people to acquire the capabilities they need to live meaningful lives. I also act as the Legal Advisor ensuring strict compliance with the Charity Commission, any GDPR & safeguarding risks/issues, and upholding the statutory duties placed upon us.
