   Ah, the Zamboni. The most glorious, majestic, and utterly unnecessary-looking machine ever created, until you can see what it does. One moment, the rink looks like it’s been attacked by a pack of ice-skating walruses. The next, after a precise, expertly executed pass of my Zamboni, it’s smoother than a conman in a tailored suit. That’s my job. As a Zamboni Driver for the Minneapolis Park & Rec Board, I am the keeper of the ice, ensuring that every hockey player, figure skater, and enthusiastic newbie gets a perfectly polished surface to slip, glide, and occasionally fall on.
