ABOUT TAHLEE AFZAL
I am a legal professional with demonstrated interest and experience in human rights law and workplace compliance. Academically and professionally I have gained experience in the areas of human rights, employment and labour law, as well as international development. I have managed the operations of the legal aid and awareness program of a leading international NGO with an outreach of 6 million rural women. My international experience consists of working with public and social agencies to promote access to justice, consulting on re-organization of legal aid programs, conducting investigations related to sexual harassment complaints and drafted policies to reflect employment fairness and equity principles. In Ontario I have worked extensively with the Human Rights Code and the Human Rights Tribunal process. I provided legal advice to potential applicants on the Human Rights Tribunal Ontario (HRTO) process, assisted applicants to draft and submit applications to the HRTO, interviewed clients; offered advice on particulars of applications, merits and HRTO process, and conduct meditations before the HRTO; devised negotiation strategy, drafted policy and training guidelines. In my current role I provide research, litigation and strategy support for the human rights legal action midwives have filed before the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario. I speak English and Bengali fluently.
