ABOUT TONY ABDOUSH

Tony is a Principal Academic and Programme Leader for MSc Corporate Governance at Bournemouth University. He joined BU in 2017 as a Lecturer in Accounting and Finance, and prior to that, Tony worked as a Visiting Academic (University of Southampton), an Associate Lecturer (Damascus University), as well as a Chief Accountant for 5 years. He holds a PhD in Accounting and Finance (2017), a MSc in Risk Management (2011), and a BSc in Economics with First Class Honours (2003).His PhD thesis, entitled ‘Corporate Governance, Firm Performance and Efficiency: Three Empirical Analyses of the UK Insurance Industry’, focused on the association between corporate governance and firm performance in the UK insurance industry, investigating also the mediating role of agency costs, and the moderating role of distribution strategies, on this association. Tony has presented his research at prestigious peer-reviewed academic conferences, and won the ‘Best Paper Award’ at BAM2016 Conference, organised by the British Academy of Management (Sep 2016, Newcastle, UK), and working towards publishing in high-impact academic journals.Tony is a Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute (FCMI) and a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA). He teaches a number of units, including Accounting and Quantitative Analysis, Financial and Business Analysis, Corporate Financial Management, as well as Corporate Governance and Ethics.His current research interests lie around Corporate Governance, Accountability and Corporate Disclosure, Sustainable Development & Corporate Social Responsibility, Financial Reporting and Analysis, Corporate Finance, Insurance, and Risk Management. He is currently supervising a number of MSc and PhD students conducting their research within these topics, and will consider PhD research proposals that are aligned with any of his research interests in accounting, finance and governance.
