ABOUT SYLVIA FREIRE
As a dedicated journalism and political science major with a minor in Spanish at the University of Kentucky, I am passionate about uncovering stories that inform, engage and inspire. Through my work as the news editor at The Kentucky Kernel, I\'ve covered breaking news, government affairs, the political beat and community issues with a focus on investigative in-depth storytelling. Beyond journalism, I am actively involved in the local college radio WRFL Lexington 88.1 FM, running my show titled \"Under the Rug\" on weekends. I have previously been in positions of leadership, including editor of the GSPOV, a scholar-based news organization dedicated to sharing the stories of the Governor\'s Scholars Program. I am working towards the political journalism field, with aspirations of becoming a foreign correspondent and eventually going into the field of law, focusing on immigration. With skills in Adobe Creative Suite, AP style and multimedia content creation, I bring a dynamic approach to storytelling and advocacy.
